Special Message from the President: Regarding the Chauvin Trial Verdict

Today, America confirmed that Black Lives Matter. This is a historic moment in the history of our country and our lives. The verdict reflects the heart of the nation and I would say the world. This verdict will send reverberations throughout every corner of the world and should have a lasting impact on generations to come. Brutality cannot continue to plague our country, specifically the black community, and it will not go unanswered. It is my hope that Mr. Floyd’s family will find some measure of peace in knowing that injustice was addressed – this time.

Today’s verdict demonstrates that our voices were heard, and justice was served in this instance, but there is still much left to do. Now more than ever, it is important that we exercise our constitutional right to vote, and otherwise participate in civic engagement.

Undoubtedly, there are mixed emotions regarding today’s verdict. While you may choose to express those feelings in different ways, it is important that you continue to let your collective voices be heard in a responsible and thoughtful manner.

Continue to be safe, engaged and involved.

Yours for ASU,

Marion Ross Fedrick
