Seth Hendley, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing

FUTURE PLANS: NURSE, SURGICAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT, PHOEBE PUTNEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Seth Hendley, a Dawson native, will graduate on May 9 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. While at ASU, he volunteered for various health fairs on campus. He is passionate about spending time with his friends and family. Seth has accepted a job as a nurse at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit where he will focus on gaining experience to provide the best level of care for his patients.

 

What motivated you to learn more about your field? 
Having the opportunity to shadow at the hospital right after high school provided me with a great amount of motivation.

Why did you choose ASU?
I chose ASU because it offered me the chance to stay home and learn with familiar faces, both at school and the hospital.

How did ASU prepare you to succeed after matriculation?
ASU partnering with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital helped give me the opportunity to work as a nurse extern during my senior year, which led to a guaranteed job.

What do you love most about your chosen profession?
I love the fact that I get the opportunity to help people in some of their most critical times of need.

Who at ASU has made the biggest impact on you and who do you consider to be a role model at ASU?  
Three of my professors from the beginning of nursing school made the biggest impact on me. Dr. Allen, Mrs. Silas, and Mrs. Okafor helped me realize that nursing school was a well worth it, hardworking task that was actually possible to complete. Also, before nursing school, Dr. Wilson and Dr. Seo helped me get a great understanding of microbiology and chemistry in just ten short weeks.

What advice would you give to other ASU students?
Hang in there and keep studying. Your day is coming!

What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
ASU has some good opportunities to offer. Being a smaller school in a smaller town, you won’t feel like a number, especially in your major classes.
