Student Spotlight: Jade Woodard

Jade Woodard, a biology major from Atlanta, Georgia, has significantly contributed to her academic and local communities. As the President of the Student Activities Advisory Board (SAAB) and a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she has demonstrated her commitment to service and leadership. Through initiatives like the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and the United Way Charity Clothing Drive, Woodard has shown her dedication to making a positive impact beyond campus borders. Her achievements and contributions reflect the spirit of excellence valued at Albany State University.

 

What legacy do you hope to leave behind as President of your organization?

As President of my organization, I aspire to leave a legacy of transformation, empowerment, and sustainable growth. Some key elements I want to imprint are visionary leadership, impactful change, the legacy of learning and development, and inspiring others.

 

Share a memory of an event your organization hosted that impacted the ASU campus.

The Student Activities Advisory Board impacted the ASU Campus with The Good Life Expo. The Good Life Expo allowed Albany State student entrepreneurs and local businesses to showcase their businesses, organizations, or products.

 

Why did you choose ASU?

I chose ASU because of its sense of community. No matter where you come from, what you look like, or your major and interests, you will always find your people. No one is ever without someone.

 

What initiatives or projects are you proud of establishing here at ASU?

I am proud to have established two projects here at ASU: the Good Life Expo, held at the beginning of the school year, and the Build-A-Bear event we have hosted for the past three years on Valentine's Day.

 

In a few words, explain the purpose of your organization and the history behind it.

The Student Activities Advisory Board at Albany State University is a branch of the Office of Student Engagement. Its mission is to provide cultural, social, civic, and recreational outlets for the student body. This group also complements the educational goals and values of the University and the Office of Student Engagement.

The Student Activities Advisory Board strives to enhance the college experience by encouraging student involvement and leadership.

 

Why did you choose your major and how do you plan on using it?

I chose Biology because I enjoy discovering new things. I plan to use my degree to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse.

 

What motivated you to join your organization?

I was motivated to join my SAAB because of the events I would see being hosted on campus. I wanted to be a part of what it takes to plan a SAAB event.
