Topics to Consider Prior to Applying

  1. How to Apply
    • Complete a Darton College of Health Professions application for admission and submit it to the Admissions Office with the $20 non-refundable application fee.
    • Visit Darton College of Health Professions Admissions for more information.
  2. MLT Admission Criteria
    • SAT score of 870 or nine semester hours of related course work at Darton College of Health Professions with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
    • Completion of all required Learning Support courses.
    • Transfer students must have a GPA of 2.5 or nine semester hours of related courses at Darton College of Health Professions with a GPA of 2.5.
    • Students with a degree from an accredited college or university may enroll in MLT technical courses, providing prerequisites are met.
  3. MLT Additional Requirements
    • A minimum grade of C is required in each MLT professional course.
    • Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) immunization is required prior to enrollment in MLTS Technical courses.
    • Liability insurance required upon enrollment in Clinical Externship.
    • To satisfactorily complete the curriculum and to develop the skills required of an entry level medical laboratory technician, the student must have:
      • Visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses) sufficient to differentiate colors used as reaction indicators, to observe the patient during phlebotomy procedure, to differentiate and identify specimens utilizing microscopic examination:
      • Physical ability to manipulate clinical laboratory instruments and equipment in a manner consistent with operational procedures.
      • Manual dexterity to perform venipuncture procedures and to operate hand-held medical laboratory equipment and tools in a manner consistent with operational guidelines.
      • Read laboratory manuals, procedure policies, specimen labels, test requisitions and other materials pertinent to professional practice.

Clinical Assignments

The MLT program provides clinical training opportunities for students with many hospitals and clinics in Southwest Georgia. Clinical assignments are made by the program faculty with approved affiliates. Students must be prepared to travel to the clinical training facility.

*Students choosing the on-line/distance learning option will need to provide the contact information for a clinical laboratory in their area willing to affiliate with Darton College of Health Professions in order to complete program requirements.
