Associate of Science
Degree Overview
The purpose of our Associate of Science in Core Curriculum for Health Science degree is to prepare graduates to apply to one of our health science career programs
or pursue further education in a variety of advanced health careers. Students who
wish to apply to any of Albany State University's health career programs must declare
the Associate of Science for Health Science Pathways (0063) as the intended major.
An advisor will be assigned to guide the student along the academic plan that best
meets the requirements for the chosen pathway. The courses necessary for degree completion will
vary based on the student’s chosen career program.
The Associate of Science degree gives students the opportunity to complete any courses
required before applying to the career program of choice. If a student gains acceptance
to a career program, the major will be changed accordingly. If a student is not accepted
into the program of choice, he/she will continue taking courses to complete the Associate
of Science degree.

Before You Apply: Program noteS
- The courses to be completed for the degree will vary based on the student’s preferred area of study which is referred to as the “pathway” for the career program of choice. Therefore, it is important to meet with an advisor to map out the best academic plan to achieve his or her goal. The student should first focus on taking the prerequisites required for the program for which they will be applying.
- All career programs have a selective admissions process. This means that a seat in any program is awarded only to the top applicants. Simply meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to a program.
