Admission First Steps

Welcome to the RAM Family

Step 1: Look for your asu email account

ASU Email is the University’s email system, and all official ASU correspondence will be sent to this account going forward.   You will receive an email within 48 hours of receiving your Admission Acceptance from ASUITS@asurams.edu titled, “ASU Account Information – Please Keep” sent to the email address you provided on your application for admission.  This email will include information on changing your password information. 

If you haven’t received the ASU IT account email in your inbox, please look in your spam folder.  Contact the ASU Help Desk at 229.500.HELP(4357) if you do not receive the email.

Network Password
To establish your network password, please visit https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com. On this page, enter your full student email address (as shown in your letter) and the characters shown in the verification box. On the following page, you will be asked where to receive a passcode. You can choose either the email address or phone number that you used when you applied to ASU. Once this passcode has been received and entered, you will then be able to establish a password of your choosing.  The new password must be at least 10 characters long and will need to include capital and lower case letters, a number, and a special character, such as !,@,& or the like. The new password also cannot have any personal identifier information, example, your name, birth date, SSN etc.  

Your Network ID and password will be used for accessing secure wireless networks, student computers, GeorgiaView online courses, the ASU housing portal, and other on-campus computing resources.

Email Access
You may access your new ASU student email account by visiting outlook.office365.com. You will login using your e-mail address and the new password you created.

All ASU Students are required to complete their Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) set-up. Multi-Factor Authentication is a security system that requires more than one method of authentication to verify a user's identity for a login. It is recommended that all ASU students have two authentication methods set-up on their Office365 accounts. You may access MFA instructions by visiting https://www.asurams.edu/technology/student-mfa.php

Banner Web
Banner Web is the primary student information system for the University.  You may access Banner Web by visiting https://asuramspc.gabest.usg.edu/StudentSelfService/ssb/studentCommonDashboard. You will log-in using your email username and password and verify using the MFA set-up.


  • STEP 2: Apply for Federal Financial aid, hope & state aid programs

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov as soon as possible. Important deadline dates for each semester can be found here. The Federal School Code is 001544.

If you are a Georgia resident and are applying ONLY for the HOPE or other state aid programs, you must establish an account with Georgia Student Finance Commission at www.gafutures.org. You may then apply for the HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarships by completing a GSFAPPS.  The GSFAPPS is found on www.gafutures.org website by selecting the “Hope & State Programs” tab and selecting “State Aid Applications.”

Use your Financial Aid Checklist link below for instructions on how to monitor your financial aid status and ensure that no additional items are needed for processing.

Step 3: Complete your intent to enroll

Are you excited to become a Golden Ram?  The Intent to Enroll lets us know that you have selected Albany State University as your college choice, you plan to attend New Student Orientation, and you plan to register for classes in the Fall/Spring.  

You must complete your Intent to Enroll prior to setting an appointment to register for classes.

    • Step 4: COMPLETE RAM READY! AND SCHEDULE new student orientation

New Student Orientation for on-campus students includes two portions:  1) Ram Ready! online modules to educate you on the ASU experience and 2) an on-campus New Student Orientation experience. Are you 100% online?  You will receive further instructions.

After you have completed your Ram Ready! online modules, schedule your on-campus New Student Orientation date.

    • Step 5: Register for Classes

  • The Advising Center is here to make sure you achieve your goals through continuous academic advising.

    You will be assigned an academic advisor based on your major area of study or academic interests who will guide and support you from your first year of school up until graduation. 

    • After you have submitted your Intent to Enroll (Step 3) and completed your Ram Ready! pre-orientation experience (Step 4), please watch your ASU email for an invitation to schedule your advising/registration appointment.  Always check your SPAM folder as well.  If you have completed Steps 3 and 4 and you have not received an email within 3-5 business days, please contact Academic Advising at academicadvising@asurams.edu for more information.

    • You must be registered for at least 12 credit hours to apply for campus housing.  You will be able to apply for campus housing 24 hrs after you are registered for classes.

    Step 6: Apply for Campus housing

First-time students must be accepted and registered for at least 12 credit hours prior to applying for campus housing (see steps 3-5).  Please review the Housing website for information on when the application portal will open for incoming students each semester.  There is a $100 non-refundable housing application fee.  Housing is not guaranteed and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meal plans are required for students who live on campus.  More information on meal plan options can be found here.

  • Apply for Campus Housing

        • Step 7: Consider summer success academy (Summer & fall ADMITS ONLY)

        Summer Success Academy is a 6-week program during the summer to prepare incoming students for the ASU experience.  Students live together in one residence hall, attend classes as a cohort, and participate in field trips, activities, and speaker forums.  Participants earn 7-9 credit hours toward graduation.  This is a great opportunity for students to get a head start on their ASU experience! 

          • step 8:  COnsider university college (fall ADMITS only)

          University College provides incoming first-year students with a rich and robust first-year experience in a smaller and supportive atmosphere.  Thematic, preparatory, and career development learning communities are enriched with reflective and creative learning experiences.

        Step 9: Complete focus 2 career

        Selecting a major can be a tough process, especially if you are not quite sure about the best careers for you.  Focus 2 Career assessments assist you in aligning your talents and interests with your major and career path.   It takes less than 20 minutes to register and complete the career assessments on your mobile phone.  The results are available immediately or you can speak with Career Services staff to understand your results.   Start with the Focus 2 Career Student Guide for instructions before moving forward. 

      Step 10: *Parents only* Register For Ram Parent University 

  •  We recognize that parent engagement is important to a successful college experience.

    RAM Parent University provides an opportunity for families of incoming freshmen to ask questions directly from ASU family members to assist their student’s onboarding experience. We want you to stay informed and in the loop!.

  • Before You Come to Campus:

Please complete these requirements prior to coming to campus for New Student Orientation:

Understand Your Online Student Account Billing and Payment System

  • Your student account is a record of all charges for tuition, fees, and other items associated with a student’s education, as well as any payments and credits. By accepting ASU’s offer of admission and enrolling in classes, each student accepts responsibility for paying all debts to the University for which they are liable. You need your email username and password to access

Check Your Balance and Set Up a Payment Plan (After Registering for Classes and Applying for Housing)

  • If any portion of your charges are not covered by financial aid or you want to make college more affordable by paying tuition and fees over time, you can set up a payment plan up to the maximum of $5500. There is no interest, setup fees are affordable, and it’s easy to enroll! Login to your Banner Web, select “Student Services and Financial Aid,” then “Student Account Information,” then “Set up NelNet Payment Plan.”  For questions about a payment plan, call 800-609-8056.

Submit Verification of Lawful Presence:

  • A student’s eligibility for in-state tuition must be verified before that student is designated as eligible. Go to the Admissions page and scroll down to the Verification of Lawful Presence section to review eligible documents.
  • Submit documents by email admissions@asurams.edu (please include your RAM ID and a current contact number on each document) or by mail to Albany State University, Office of Admissions, 2400 Gillionville Rd., Albany GA 31721. Please allow 24 hours after documents are received for any registration hold to be resolved.

Submit a “Certificate of Immunization.”

  • Go to Student Health Services to review the immunization requirements for admission and download the appropriate forms.
  • Submit documents by email admissions@asurams.edu (please include your RAM ID and a current contact number on each document) or by mail to Albany State University, Office of Admissions, 2400 Gillionville Rd., Albany GA 31721. Please allow 24 hours after documents are received for any registration hold to be resolved.

Submit Final High School Transcripts (by July 1):

      • Final high school transcripts (with your graduation date included) are required to establish that you have graduated from high school and to disburse financial aid.
      • GA residents can log in their GAFutures account at  www.gafutures.org to send transcripts to Albany State University.
      • All others should contact their high school guidance office or county school board office to request final transcripts.

Complete PART 1 of “AlcoholEdu” course online (available August 1) via EVERFI

  • Part 1 of this training will be available August 1
  • Part 2 of this training can be accessed 30 days after completion of Part 1.

Complete PART 1 of “Sexual Assault Prevention” course online (available August 1) via EVERFI

  • Part 1 of this training will be available August 1
  • Part 2 of this training can be accessed 30 days after completion of Part 1.

Campus Services You May Need

We invite you to visit our vibrant campus community! These optional New RAM visitation tours are for admitted students still in the process of making their college decision and want to know more about ASU.

From application to graduation, the Office of Military and Adult Education promotes college completion for adult learners and military-connected students by providing student support services that enhance and complement the academic experience

If you are planning to park a car on campus, you must register and pay online for an ASU parking permit. Parking is limited, and permits are assigned on a priority system. Follow the instructions outlined in the Parking Guide.
