Campus Update: Students
March 17, 2020
Dear Students,
After a decision made by the University System of Georgia (USG), Albany State University along with the other 25 USG institutions will move to online and remote instruction for all courses for the remainder of the semester with extremely limited exceptions. This decision follows last week’s decision to suspend instruction for two weeks to ensure business and instructional continuity, and to allow further state assessment of COVID-19.
I want you to know your safety is our top priority. I am in regular contact with our Student Government Association leadership. I want to ensure we maintain transparency during these times. They have represented you well and have shared your concerns. Over the next week, you will receive further guidance from your professors regarding online and remote instruction. It is critical that you check your ASU email regularly and the official ASU website (www.asurams.edu) for important updates.
Several of you have shared your questions about housing. To maintain social distancing, the university will implement a phased in move-out schedule for each of our residence halls. You will receive an email by Wednesday, March 18 instructing you to sign-up for your move-out appointment.
Move-outs will begin Friday, March 20 at 8 a.m., and will continue until Friday, March 27. You will not be allowed in the residence halls until you are provided with a confirmation of your move-out appointment. Please do not come to campus until your allotted time. More information is forthcoming on the process.
Residential students who have extenuating circumstances or cannot identify housing elsewhere must contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at asuhousing@asurams.edu or 229-500-2025 for assistance.
I know that many of you are concerned about receiving a refund for housing and meal plans. I’m working on those details with the University System of Georgia. As soon as the USG determines the best way to move forward, we will communicate directly with all students and begin the process as quickly as possible.
As the university will continue its remote and online instruction, we will have essential ASU offices open and minimal staff onsite to continue university operations. It is important for you to know that your professors and university staff will continue to operate the university remotely as we work to ensure a seamless transition to online and remote instruction. Your success and safety are our top priorities.
Please know we are working collaboratively with USG and other relevant officials to help stem the spread of the coronavirus in Georgia; and that we fulfill our mission to graduate you, our students even in the face of these challenging times.
Respectfully,
Marion Ross Fedrick
President
