ALBANY STATE UNIVERSITY AND DARTON STATE COLLEGE-CORDELE COLLABORATE ON NEW CLASSES, DEGREE PROGRAM
ALBANY, Ga. - As part of the ongoing collaboration between Albany State University and Darton State
College, Albany State University and Darton State College are partnering to offer
classes toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain and Logistics Management
at the Darton State College Cordele Center.
“We are excited to be the host location for this partnership,” says Executive Director
of Darton State College Cordele Center Caroline Fielding. “We’ve been able to offer
day and evening classes leading to Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees,
and certificates. With this partnership we can broaden our offerings to bachelor degrees.”
The Supply Chain and Logistics Management program is a unique course of study that
helps to create a distinct student experience at Albany State University. Jobs in
material handling and purchasing are involved in this process, which also includes
positions in transportation, logistics and many other areas.
“In addition to acquiring a degree, students also have the opportunity to qualify
for several certifications based on the knowledge they gain while enrolled in the
program,” says ASU College of Business Dean Alicia Jackson. “The combination of the
degree, the certifications and the experiences our students have with supporting corporations
enhance their appeal to future employers.”
The Supply Chain and Logistics Management program develops students’ skills in an
exciting field through an integrated learning process that allows students to build
experiences inside a virtual global company used to simulate a complete supply chain
and logistics management environment.
“Albany State University’s Supply Chain and Logistics Management program is designed
to allow learners to develop a deep understanding of SCLM principles and theory,”
says ASU’s Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Abiodun Ojemakinde. “This
partnership with Darton State College will allow us to prepare more students for a
lucrative and demanding career in a growing industry.”
First classes toward the Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain and Logistics
Management will be offered during the “B Term” of spring 2016, with full semester
courses being offered in the Summer 2016 semester. Organizers are projecting two classes
offered each semester. Classes will most likely be evening classes that are face-to-face
or a hybrid structure, allowing students to do some of their classes online.
“Working with students and helping them succeed is of utmost importance to ASU and
DSC,” says Darton State College Interim Provost VPAA Dr. Tom Ormond. “Being able to
schedule classes where our students are through video conferencing with ASU faculty
or offering classes online is another way ASU and DSC are encouraging continued education.”
An Open House at Darton State College – Cordele Campus is scheduled for Tuesday,
January 26, 2016, beginning at 6 p.m. Representatives from both schools including
Admissions, Financial Aid, Adult Learning, and Online Learning will be in attendance
to answer questions regarding enrollment.
The Cordele Center is located at 134 11th Ave West, in downtown Cordele.
