Chair's Message
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Department of History, Political Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies webpage at Albany State University, Albany, Georgia. The Department is building upon a proud past. What has long been so good at Albany State University will never be abandoned: academic excellence, honesty, deep concern for values – marked by rigor and imagination, a sense of joy, both of work and of play. Those were – and those are – the strengths of ASU's Department of History, Political Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Our responsibility is to create new ways to use those strengths to meet present and emerging challenges.

The department supports the curricula of other departments through the provision of courses in history, government, geography, philosophy and social sciences. Minor programs are offered in History, Political Science, Legal Studies, International Affairs. Each minor program consists of 18 semester hours beyond the core requirements.
The overall mission of the Department of History, Political Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies is to educate students and provide them with the necessary academic tools in their respective disciplines in order to function effectively in the global environment. We endeavor to deliver precise, prompt and courteous assistance to our students, to those who use our professional services, and to the public agencies who hire our graduates.
The faculty, like the student body, is cosmopolitan. The members display a significant range of opinion and philosophy, found at many of our nation's leading universities. Over 90% of the faculty in this department have received an earned doctorate, while 10% have professional degrees within their respective fields. The University is fully accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Undergraduate Minor Programs
In addition to Major Programs, undergraduates Minor Programs are offered in History, Political Science, Legal Studies and International Relations. Each minor program consists of 18 semester hours beyond the core requirements. These programs prepare students for professional careers and advanced study in history, political science, law and Internship experiences in History and Political Science are available.
