We're thrilled to share with you the exciting developments happening within our department. I'm delighted to introduce you to our beautiful Fine Arts Center, a hub of inspiration and creativity designed to nurture the talents of our students. With cutting-edge facilities dedicated to the Visual & Performing Arts as well as English & Modern Languages, this space promises to be a haven for exploration and growth.

Our department offers an array of opportunities for students, including a Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Performing Arts degree with concentrations in visual art, music, music education, and theatre. Within each area, students will find themselves immersed in a dynamic environment that fosters both artistic vision and technical proficiency. Every ASU student is invited to participate in our performance ensembles, spanning music, theatre, and dance.

In addition to our degree programs, we offer minors in the following areas:

Dance Professional Writing
English Spanish
Museum Studies Theatre
Music Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies


At the heart of our mission is the belief that the arts are essential to intellectual, social, and personal development. That's why we offer core courses in
English Composition, Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, Theatre Appreciation, Dance Appreciation, Spanish, and multiple areas of Literature ensuring every student can engage with the transformative power of the arts, apply critical thinking, and experience intercultural and philosophical texts. To meet the objectives of this mission, the Department offers the following:

Courses fulfilling the Core Impacts
Elective courses available for all university majors
Main stage productions, exhibits, and rhetoric presentations
Community outreach opportunities
Field experiences in artistic and education settings
Solo performance and performing opportunities in ensembles that include the Theatre Ensemble, Dance Ensemble, Concert Chorale & Chamber Singers, Marching Rams Show band, Jazz Band, Symphonic and Concert Bands, and numerous smaller ensembles.

The Pierian is a literary and visual arts journal showcasing the incredible talent of our students and faculty, providing a platform for expression and creativity. We invite you to explore the pages of The Pierian and immerse yourself in the diverse voices and perspectives it captures. It is a cherished part of the Department of Arts & Humanities and features up to 50 authors and artists from across the nation in each edition.
